GRAFTON: The Grafton Historical Society Board of Directors recently voted to return the former Grafton Savings Bank building near to its original location on Main Street in Fisherville Village in South Grafton. The building will have a new home at the South Grafton Mill Villages Park located at 61 Main Street next to the Blackstone River.

The "small bank building", which will continue to be owned by the Historical Society, was built by members of the Larrivee family in 1937 and served as a branch bank for both the Grafton Savings Bank and the Grafton Co-Operative Bank. It was designed to represent a scaled version of the Grafton Savings Bank located in Central Square near the Grafton Common. The original savings bank building in Grafton Center is now owned by Magill Associates. The smaller building served as a working bank in South Grafton until it was purchased by the Grafton Historical Society in 1967 and moved to a location on Upton Street next to the Grafton post office. It served as the first headquarters of the Historical Society.

The Grafton Historical Society is a private, non-profit 501c3 organization that collects, preserves and interprets all things related to the history of Grafton, Massachusetts. The office and museum are located in the historic Grafton Town House. The Historical Society is managed by a twelve member volunteer board of directors, along with a core of dedicated volunteers.  For additional information, contact Historical Society President Linda Casey at 508-839-0000 and www.graftonhistoricalsociety.org and http://www.facebook.com/graftonhistory
